ENGLAND BEAT IRELAND

The England cricket team has defeated Ireland in the one off ODI played at Dublin. England won the match by 6 wickets.

It was a great crowd out there at Malahide. More than 90% spectators were the Irish supporters and they were making immense noise. They had massive expectations from the home team and they wouldn’t have been disappointed at the end of the match. Although the Irish team lost, they went down fighting and their effort was appreciable.

It was the English skipper Eoin Morgan who won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Ireland didn’t have a solid start as they lost a couple of wickets early – as predicted by the guys at Unibet.

The captain Williams Porterfield and the veteran player Niall O’Brien tried to put the innings back on track with a 50 odd runs stand for the 3rd wicket.

James Tredwell broke that stand by knocking over Niall O’Brien and soon after that, he dismissed Garry Wilson too.

But, Porterfield was unflappable at the other end. He was rotating the strike quite well and was hitting odd boundaries as well. He got a bit of support from John Mooney and a 63-run partnership between these two for the 6th wicket took Ireland past 200.

However, both of them returned to the pavilion in the same over and Ireland seemed to be struggling to go past 250, but, in the last few overs, Max Sorensen and Trent Johnston hit some big shots and the hosts ended up getting to 269.

Porterfield was the highest scorer for Ireland. He scored 112 runs off 142 balls with 14 fours and a six.

In reply, England started awfully. Their new look top order couldn’t make the most of this opportunity and the scorecard was showing 48 for 4 at one stage. Ireland was well and truly on top.

But, then, England’s two most experienced players, Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara, got together and with some brilliant stroke play, they brought their team out of trouble.

Ireland couldn’t get either of them dismissed as they put up a huge stand of 226 runs and saw their team home. Both of them managed to complete their tons during that partnership.

Morgan was declared man of the match for his inning of 124.
